MEMORY AND SPACE IN KAZUO ISHIGURO'S NOVEL "THE BURIED GIANT": INTERMEDIAL ASPECT

The aim of the article is to investigate phenomenon intermediality in 2015 novel Buried Giant by British writer Kazuo Ishiguro. Particular attention paid notion “literary cinematographicness” (also known as cinematic or filmic mode), which defined use techniques and effects literature, thus creating effect multimodality, with a dramatic-intensive flow events text. Analyzing examples from Ishiguro’s novel, focuses on such elements literary cinematographicness prevalent audio-visual modality, an in-depth semantics sensory images characters’ non-verbal language; abundance audial visual special effects; well incorporating different shots sizes, perspectives, angles that produce multidimensional space recipient’s mind. Furthermore, novel’s central motif memory recollections determines its non-linear chronotope, montage, dynamic frame shots, flashbacks becoming instrumental depicting complex spatio-temporal relations between scattered scenes images.
